Dr. Christopher Lee
earned his PhD in Geography from the University of Arizona in
1990. He spent nine years (1991-2000) as a faculty member, including
two years as Chair, in the Department of Earth Sciences at CSU
Dominguez Hills. He moved to the CSU Long Beach Geography Department
in August 2000 and is currently a Professor of Geography at CSULB.
Dr. Lee is a physical geographer who has specialized in remote
sensing and GIS-based education and research for the past 20 years.
Dr. Lee is also an Adjunct Assistant Research Scientist at the
University of Arizona, a former Fulbright Senior Research Scholar
to Egypt (1995-96) and a former Visiting Senior Scientist in the
Applications Division at NASA Headquarters (1999). He was the
principal investigator and Director of the Southern California
Wildfire Hazard Center which was one of nine NASA Regional Earth
Science Applications Centers (RESACs). He was also the principal
investigator of a NASA grant focused on international, state and
local geospatial workforce development. Dr. Lee's research has
included analysis of long-term vegetation dynamics in both riparian
and wetlands environments, monitoring of rain-fed agriculture
on the northwest coast of Egypt, and assessment of environmental
conditions at the National Training Center (NTC), Fort Irwin.
Dr. Lee has acted as the principal investigator on over $2.5 million
of funded research and he has participated in grants and contracts
totaling over $5 million.
