CORSE 2000 - For Teachers by
Teachers, June 26-29, 2000 Gulf Park, Mississippi
General Information
Each session focuses on educational modules which effectively
find ways for teaching students to use remotely sensed data and
imagery in multidisciplinary ways for the classroom. Methods to
access remote sensing information from the Internet will be demonstrated.
Breakout sessions enable one-on-one teacher discussions to explore
options for teaching with these advanced materials and useful
experiences from veteran educators.
Session 1: Remote
Sensing Tutorial - Each teacher will receive a CD-ROM
copy and instructional use of the award winning "Remote Sensing
Tutorial" developed by NASA scientists. Tutorial

Session 2: Earth
Sciences - This module exposes teachers to the materials
and methods used by experienced teachers on remote sensing applications
to learning earth sciences. Download

Session 3: Oceans,
Coasts and Atmospheres - Remote sensing has unleashed
tremendous understanding of the interactions of oceanic and atmospheric
processes and dynamics and human activities along the coasts.
This module explores useful methods to teach these topics with
imagery from the Internet. Download

Session 4: Forestry
and Change Detection - Forest resources play a key role
in the ecological balance of the planet. Remote sensing data and
analysis techniques provide effective ways to introduce these
concepts to students. Download

Session 5: Urban
Sprawl and Land Cover Change - This dynamics of human
transformation of the Earth's surface can best be demonstrated
using time series satellite imagery and aerial photography. Modules
are provided which capture these learning tools. Download

Session 6: Digital
Quest - This exciting series of remote sensing educational
modules has been created through the MS Space Commerce Initiative.

Breakout Sessions - Teachers will have a chance to revisit
each of the above sessions and ask questions of the presenters.
They will also discuss the content amongst themselves and determine
how it can be applied to their own classrooms. This will be shared
at the plenary session.
